I don't think we did this, or at least not in a really long time. List the 5 top games you have ever played. They don't have to necessarily be your favorite, but the best overall game. For example, BF2 is one of, if not my most favorite game I ever played. But I can't put it in the "Top 5" because it was only multiplayer and became my favorite because of the fun times playing competitively and with fellow BoS members. A great game should stand all on its own.
5. Portal 4. Grand Theft Auto IV 3. Red Dead Redemption 2. Fallout 3 1. Half-Life 2 (and its episodes)

1- Quake 2 (such a nice coop) 2- Quake 3 3- Final Fantasy Tactics 4- War Craft 2 ( I miss the catapult) 5- Fallout 3 6- Street Fighter 2 ( Ken is way better than Ryu ) 7- Top Gear 3000 8- Diablo 2 ( man, level generator, just awesome ) 9- Mario kart 10- Zelda
Considered: xwing vs tie fighter, Mario Bros 3, EA NHL 93, NBA JaM, Star Craft, Final Fantasy series, contra,
Man, you don't name an event Quakecon without an amazing game. Multi-players or not, the game has to be just awesome. I played thousands of hours at both. They were the most easiest game to customize (see urban terror, rocket arena, etc). A great game is a great game, and even if Quake 3 was only multi-players, it was enough to beat the crap out of any single player game I've ever played.
Addictiveness has to be part of the way you evaluate a game. It's not everything, I agree, but It has to be considered.

Changing it to Top 10, update the title mang.
Here are the 10 games I spent the most time on, which to me, would make them the best - but in order of how they stack up against each other:
10. Medieval Total War (VIKING BERSERKERS FTW) 9. Age of Empires 2 8. Lost Oddysey (prob most involved emotionally in a game ever) 7. Morrowind 6. Call of Duty 2 5. Quake 3/Urban Terror 2.3 4. Fallout 3 (beat it on PC & X360, choosing different paths) 3. EVE Online 2. Planetside (this game was my life for 2 years) 1. Oblivion (beat the entire game on PC, then beat it and got all achievements for X360 & its expansion)
Considered : X-wing v Tie; GTA 3; Rome: Total War; Rocket Arena 3; Jedi Knight : Dark Forces 2; Battlefield 2; Guild Wars; Neverwinter Nights

Okay. Most of you will be like WTF, how old is Spank?
In no particular order.
1. X-wing (Awesome graphics for its time, incredible missions, and NOT based on the new trilogy.) 2. Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic (The best fantasy based TBS IMHO. Has that, just one more turn, factor going for it.) 3 Pool of Radiance (The original. Now I didn't need a bunch of geeky friends to play D&D.) 4 Freespace 2 (Amazing story, missions, and combat.) 5 C&C Renegade (Multiplayer aspect. For me, a precursor to the BF series. So much you can do, and having fun doing it.) 6 EA NHL Hockey (The first in the series on the Sega Genesis. Go Flyers.) 7 Aliens vs Predator 2 (Three distinct modes of play, three interlocking stories, and best of all, being a Predator.) 8 Medieval II: Total War (Great combo of RTS and TBS elements. Huge battles, varied tactics, and epic sieges.) 9 BF 2142 (Titan mode. Joining BoS and finding that I really wasn't a dominant player, and elevating my play. And taking Bones' tags.) 10 Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II (True lightsaber combat and a good FPS to boot. Choking and tossing Stormtroopers. Luke coming to save your ass during a run in with multiple Sith.
I'm probably missing quite a few.
