I'm getting so sick of hearing about how awesome Avatar was and how it should win all these awards and shit. I'll give them Best Visual Effects and MAYBE Best Director for James Cameron since he created some pretty revolutionary techniques for filming, but last night Avatar was awarded Best Drama at the Golden Globes. Are you kidding me? I saw the midnight release in 3-D and I fucking fell asleep right before the end battle scene (it was after the two hours of bullshit nothing). The story line is totally unoriginal and a direct rip-off of Pocahontas and the acting was really sub-par. I can totally respect the amount of work put into the visuals of the film but by no means did this make the film "amazing". I have three reasons why I think Avatar is so overrated.
1.) James Cameron. Let's face it, this guy is a legend when it comes to directing and people expect nothing less than perfection from him. He now has directed the top two grossing films of ALL TIME. People went into theaters with their minds already made up on how "great" this film would be.
2.) 3D. Most people have not experienced this new 3D technology being used for some movies today. I saw Final Destination in 3D and although the movie sucked it was visually pretty awesome because I never saw anything like it.
3.) Hype. The movie had a $500 million dollar budget so you know this thing was going to be plugged to the max in every media outlet with hardly any negative views being given ear. People WANTED to enjoy the movie so bad so they could be in the cool clique, post Facebook status updates that read "OMG AVATAR WAS AMZING!1!!" and not feel left out.
If you haven't seen it, don't feel bad. Wait till it comes out on DVD and RENT it (not worth buying/downloading probably won't justify the visual effects) and find a pair of cheap 3D glasses.
Anyway I saw this beauty and it refueled my hatred for the fucking Avatar hype.
