There is no lack of oil in the wolrd, its just the fuckin greedy arabs that wanna rape us cause the govt won't drill for our own oil. I wish we would take the oil out of Iraq right now, they don't use it for shit. Stuff makes me mad. I'm tryin to buy a motorcylce but that's about all I'll do in this situation.
And don't be scared Horseshoe, seriously. It's the fear of a recession or crisis that causes one. The media blows things out of porportion all the time.

You say don't be scared... In my industry everything revolves around FUEL! Did you know that the United States of America is the largest producer of Oil. Most people do not know this, and the thing is, the USA is also the number 1 consumer of oil. Secondly, we sell a majority of our oil to China... also a fact that most people do not know, which is shitty since we could boost our own economy by staying within the country. Thirdly, the US government up to 2008 did not want to force auto manufactures to create high MPG vehicles because by doing so it would lower the amount of oil consumed therefor hurting our economy. In the late 1990's Bill Clinton proposed a bill that made it a law that US Auto Manufactures only produce vehicles that get 20+ MPG on any vehicle that is rated a consumer high weight capacity vehicle such as SUV's , Trucks, and Vans. This may not sound like a huge increase in what we have now, but in the late 1990's SUV's were only getting 8-12 miles per gallon, it was a big step. This got shot down by lobbiests before it made it to the house. Too many republicans were worried that it would cut into their profits and dampen our economy. I would consider myself to be a republican so I am not bashing the republican party.
The US has tried to impose less usage and alternate fuels in the past, however the current president has not picked up on this trend. The US government also stepped in and told the major Truck manufactures to focus on and only on lowering the amount of pollution a semi produces, and not the MPG that a truck gets. Lowering pollution is great, but what was overlooked by increasing MPG also decreases pollution. The Government has provided many restrictions on companies to lower MPG not increase MPG until this year. So, with this big crisis, of which is a crisis as of now, it is imperative that we monitor the price of gas. Like it or not, gas dictates the price of everything one buys, other than porn. I threat only because of what I have seen in my industry, which is one of the leading signs to a depression, and that is the decrease of commercialized goods which starts with the transportation industry.
It is a bad situation when a family can not afford to pay for the gas in their vehicle to go to work to pay to support their family.
This is just my 2cents on why it is a big deal, and it IS something to be scared about.

Yeah I agree that it is going to be a concern. Because of supply and demand, the price of gas is going to keep going up until people's driving habits change. That is not going to happen anytime soon since commuting is so hardcore ingrained into the way we do things here. Gas is going to keep going up until people look at the price of gas and say "Holy shit that is wicked sick expensive, I'm not going to drive as much any more."
