I had a weird occurrence today that 1) scared the shit out of me and 2) took me a ton of time to figure out. We had to restart one of our servers that runs our SQL stuff. Someone mentioned that they couldn't connect to one of the databases and then I realized that like four of them were in this (In Recovery) mode. After awhile I figured out that something was erroring out and causing them to not complete.
Here comes the question. The database it was getting stuck on was read-only and the only read-only database we had. Is there something about read-only databases that cause the recovery to not function properly on a restart? Is it just a fluke that it happened to be that database? Todd or Craig have you guys had any experiences with this?

I would recommend restarting it, 3 times for maximum performance.

That video was actually pretty sweet. I knew hard drives were really sensitive to vibration but I didn't realize they were THAT sensitive.

Depending on your recovery model, you can't just "restart" a windows server that is running SQL. It is recommended practice to shut down the SQL server first, and then restart the windows computer. You do this bc of the log flushing that needs to happen or yah if you restart a windows server, and the SQL services aren't stopped and logs aren't flushed its going to go into recovery mode. It's just doing what its told to do

Yeah, I wasn't the one who restarted or I would have stopped everything properly. I just had to clean up the mess =/
